PIPER: Gentleman: A well-mannered and considerate man with high standards of proper behavior.



Well, I don't really have much vote regarding the 'proper behavior' part since most of the norms in society is dictated by those who are in power (or something to that effect). I'm more concerned with the well-mannered and considerate part. In this age of ours, I have this nagging feeling that people are much too self-absorbed or callous to remember what it's like to be a gentleman. Some might say that this is just one of the things handed down to us from our spanish conquerors to enable us to be easily colonized. However, I think much of the conflict in society right now is brought about by the lack of having the virtues of a being gentleman. I mean, if people cared enough to be considerate about other people then a lot of our current problems, how big (officials in the seat of power stealing funds of the government) or how small (friends wondering if a barkada is arriving for a appointed meet or not) that is, would be avoided.
